Juliet Ventor is a member of the British Association of Iconographers. Her work is created in the traditional Byzantine manner.
Using colour symbolism, sacred geometry, stylised gestures and inverse perspective the emphasis is on the other-worldliness of the subject. Beyond the surface value as beautiful object, icons are intended to focus the viewer’s prayers and meditation on a saint’s spiritual existence.
Each Icon is an original piece of work painted in the traditional medium of egg tempera. However an icon is not work of imagination, but a repetition of a long-established image: the painter works from a prototype, careful not to introduce fanciful variations and innovations. Nevertheless every artist’s work has its own original style and character.
