Classes in Association with Letchworth Settlement

Life Drawing Class Tutor: Collette Hoefkens

During the term you will be working from a range of models and encouraged to try a variety of exercises as well as having the opportunity to complete detailed drawings and paintings.
Working directly with the model you will be able to explore and develop your skills and potential. With the emphasis on observation guidance is also available in using a range of media including pencil, oils and charcoal. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome; the course suits all levels of ability.

Norton Way Gallery Life Drawing Classes are held on Wednesday evenings at The Settlement, Nevells Road, Letchworth Garden City, Hertfordshire. Classes are limited to no more than fifteen members a term, so you do need to book early to ensure a place. There are three terms a year, each lasting eight weeks.

Working with a variety of models, each week’s session provides a different challenge. Warming up with a series of sketches, lasting from two minutes to twenty minutes, you are free to work in whatever medium you feel is appropriate. I will give suggestions and introduce exercises designed to improve and broaden your observation skills.
The main focus of the session is an extended pose that lasts for up to an hour. This time gives you the opportunity to complete a more detailed piece of work, whether it is in pencil, oil, charcoal or any other medium of your choice. Materials are not provided.

With a strong emphasis on observation my aim is to support you to find your own approach, methods and style. The sessions are suitable for both experienced artists and beginners. Art is about communication and expression and in particular self-expression. These classes are structured to facilitate your personal development so that you are able to visually express what is important to you.
